MISSION STATEMENT
The Ed4Ed mission is to provide aid to be shared free of cost with all who care for youth. The single goal is elimination of youth dying and suffering grave injury due to a simple lack of knowledge. These senseless tragedies can be prevented. This will be accomplished through awareness of and education about emerging youth risk behavior trends. To be effective the program must be efficient, flexible, adaptable, accessible, easy to use and offered freely. Stop the Choking Game

Program Overview
In today’s ever-changing world it seems that the minute we recognize and address one danger there are an unlimited supply of new ones to take its place. One of the more recent dangers facing our youth are the risky activities known as “CHALLENGES”. These activities typically involve someone filming themselves engaging in a dangerous stunt and then posting the video on the internet and “challenging” others to participate. These challenges have been around for years but with the popularity of social media they are spreading farther and faster than ever before. On the surface many of these activities seem harmless such as the well-known Ice Bucket Challenge which started out as a fundraising event but evolved to cause injury and in some cases fatalities. A recent example that has made national headlines is the Tide Pod Challenge. It is our goal to help our youth understand not only the dangers of these activities but to also realize the power and impact of their own choices. There are some who feel that talking about these activities this will cause the students to try them. There is always that small risk but the danger of doing nothing is far worse than the risk of providing factual information and education that could save a young life. In 2015 our Outreach Director Ken Tork had the opportunity to participate in a program created by Mr. Charlie Warring, a health teacher in Saulk Center Minnesota. After learning of a good friend’s son who died from participating in a version of one of these activities, Mr. Warring saw a need for education on this subject. It had to be something very different that would make a substantial impact with the kids, but he also knew it needed to be user friendly for both students and educators as well as inexpensive. In response he created a program which accomplishes those goals. Since Ken too had lost a child to one of these deadly activities, he also felt the need to raise awareness of how dangerous and devastating these activities can be both for families and communities. After seeing Mr. Warring’s program, Ken knew they had stumbled upon something unique. By combining their efforts to share with the students what was, in Ken’s case, a very tragic experience, the men could demonstrate the effect such an event would have on students families and the entire community. For those using this program, it could be a positive story of how making the right choice could change the course of someone’s life. That is why we encourage those using this curriculum find someone from their own school or community, a school resource officer, teacher, or even a fellow student who could share their story. That person could then be the motivating force that changes a student’s life forever.
